Dear Sangha Members and Friends,

As you have no doubt heard, on March 28th a very large 7.7 earthquake struck central Myanmar with devastating effects, killing thousands of people including many monks and nuns, and destroying many ancient Buddhist temples, stupas, and pagodas, as well as collapsing countless homes, schools, hospitals, businesses, and communities. Myanmar's response services are overwhelmed, thousands of people are injured, and in general, life is in chaos there.

Buddhism is the dominant religion in Myanmar (formerly known as Burma), with around 88% of the population identifying as Theravada Buddhist, totaling around 48 million Buddhists.

Unfortunately since the main earthquakes struck there have been hundreds of aftershocks in Myanmar, with rain and extreme heat making things even more uncertain for everyone.

Ven. Khenpo Tsewang Dongyal Rinpoche and the Padmasambhava Buddhist Center are requesting your support. In terms of practice, please do extra practices of Guru Padmasambhava, Tara, Amitabha, and the mantra of Avalokiteshvara. Please pray for the people of Myanmar, as well as so many other beings and situations in this world and beyond.

PBC is also taking up a collection to help the communities and victims in Myanmar with relief. Your contributions will make a substantial difference in their lives. We are arranging for all of the funds to be distributed directly to communities in the region so that they receive 100% of your generous donation.

We will inform all of the donors exactly how their contributions were used to support the lives of those affected by this natural disaster.

The Padmasambhava Buddhist Center (PBC) spreads the teachings of the Buddha according to the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. The center was established in New York in 1989 by Ven. Khenchen Palden Sherab Rinpoche and Ven. Khenpo Tsewang Dongyal Rinpoche. PBC includes over twenty centers in the U.S.A., Puerto Rico, and Russia, as well as monastic institutions in the U.S.A. and India.
