Gochen Monastery Project
Gonchen Monastery is a large Sakya Tibetan Buddhist monastery in the town of Derge, located in the Tibetan region of Kham. The story of Gochen Monastery includes the prediction and naming of the site by the great terton Tsasum Lingpa. The first Gochen Tulku, Gyalwa Gyatso, built the monastery based on Tsasum Lingpa's prediction.

Venerable Khenchen Palden Sherab Rinpoche entered Gochen Monastery at the age of six, where he underwent an intensive training in all facets of Tibetan Education, both secular and religious.

The monastery was completely destroyed during the "Cultural Revolution". The monastery was restored in the 1980s and the three inner sanctums are dedicated to Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), Sakyamuni Buddha (Sakya Thukpa) and the future Buddha, Jampa or Maitreya.

Please join Padmasambhava Buddhist Center's efforts to support improvements at Gochen Monastery, including providing new bathrooms and running water indoors.
