Making prayer requests to Lamas and the sangha of practitioners is a traditional and widely Buddhist activity practiced for centuries up to the present. Combined with prayers, lamp offerings may be made to support and celebrate positive circumstances, as well as to help people in difficult times or during uncertain transitions. The gift of light and the accompanying prayers help to bring about less suffering and greater happiness in times of illness, loss, uncertainty, and death.

A traditional element of making a prayer request is to offer some support to the sangha as a way of further establishing a positive karmic connection between those who are praying and whomever is being prayed for. This creates more conducive causes and conditions for wholesome aspirations and practices to be actualized for the benefit of others.

Light Offerings to the Mandala of Palden Padma Samye Ling

To honor and glorify the living monuments of the Three Jewels at Padma Samye Ling, and to celebrate the teachings of Buddha Shakyamuni and Guru Padmasambhava, the Venerable Khenpo Rinpoches installed spotlights to illuminate the Eight Great Stupas, Five Dhyani Buddhas, and 108 reliquary stupas, and placed thousands of light offerings around the dharmakaya, sambhogakaya, and nirmanakaya levels of the temple.

During special events and for prayer requests sponsored on behalf of loved ones, we will activate an incredible offering of over 10,000 lights, sending out beams of praise and gratitude to the Three Jewels, Three Roots, and Three Kayas, radiating wisdom lights of love and compassion to dispel the suffering of all sentient beings. Truly, this is a magnificent modern light offering to the Three Kaya temple of Padma Samye Ling, which houses thousands of painted deities, Dharma texts, stupas, statues, and precious relics.
